Splitting a bill is a small problem that gets awkward in exactly the setting where nobody wants to be doing arithmetic: a table of people, a card machine waiting, and a total that does not divide.

The dividing is the part this tool takes seriously. Ten pounds across three people is £3.33 each, which comes to £9.99 — and that missing penny has to go somewhere. Most calculators round each share and quietly lose it, which is fine until six people leave a restaurant five pence short. Here the odd amount goes on the last person and is shown separately, so the parts always add up to what was actually charged.
Round-up exists because it is what people actually do: a total of 47.30 becomes 50, and the tip absorbs the difference. The tool shows the resulting tip so you can see whether the rounding was generous or stingy before you commit to it.
